We like to think of the skeleton and bones as rigid, lifeless tissue. But the opposite is true. Vitamin K and vitamin D have a major influence on calcium and phosphate metabolism and are involved in the mineralisation and hardening of bone. Vitamin K is used to form the vitamin D-dependent osteocalcin, which promotes bone mineralisation. Without sufficient vitamin K, this binding process is incomplete. Calcium is the most important bone building block.
